Pupils at an Essex school celebrated World Teachers’ Day in an exciting way last week – by being filmed for a popular children’s news bulletin that will be used across the nation.
Children from St Cedd’s School in Chelmsford took part in a special edition of Espresso News – an award-winning news service for primary schools. Produced in partnership with ITN Productions, Espresso News brings the world’s biggest stories to thousands of classrooms every day, via the digital learning platform Discovery Education Espresso.
A film crew from Espresso News visited St Cedd’s School to give children the chance to say thank you to their teacher Hayley McKechnie. Spending the day with Hayley and her class, they captured ‘a day in the life’ of a primary school teacher, filming lessons and playtime and interviewing pupils about Mrs McKechnie.
Celia, aged 8, said:
“ Mrs McKechnie is really kind and helpful and helps us understand everything.”
Olivia, aged 9, said:
“ My teacher really inspires me because she has incredible descriptive language and is very passionate about teaching me new words.”
Aarushi, aged 8, said:
“The best thing about my teacher is that she is really encouraging. She is always there for anyone who is struggling.”
Teacher Hayley McKechnie said:
“At St Cedd’s we watch Espresso News every day in an effort to jumpstart student learning, so the children were very excited to take part in filming for World Teacher Day. Teaching is such a special profession. It gives you the chance to make a difference to help shape children’s lives. I was so proud to hear the children’s interviews and to invite the film crew into our wonderful school!”
Howard Lewis, Managing Director UK and International at Discovery Education said:
“We were delighted to feature St Cedd’s School in Espresso News and to share in their celebrations for World Teacher Day. Our special bulletin will give students everywhere the chance to say thank you and acknowledge the amazing work that their teachers do!”
