Global edtech leader Discovery Education’s Time for Phonics has been announced as a finalist at next year’s prestigious Bett Awards in the 2025 Early Years Product or Service category. The Department for Education (DfE)-validated programme was integrated into Espresso – Discovery Education’s daily learning platform for primary schools – in September 2024.
Produced in association with The British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA), the Bett Awards recognise and reward the UK’s most outstanding EdTech and are widely recognised as a benchmark of excellence.
‘Time for Phonics by Discovery Education’ gives schools a complete suite of resources to teach systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) to pupils in Reception and KS1. Following the Letters and Sounds progression, the activity-based, time-saving programme makes phonics enjoyable to teach and learn and helps children make rapid progress in reading.
Featuring fun bite-sized lessons, decodable texts, in-class assessments and full teaching support, Time for Phonics by Discovery Education is ideal for teachers who are new to phonics or seeking fresh ideas to build knowledge and confidence. With easy-to-follow lesson plans and fun hands-on activities, the programme provides a structured route to prepare pupils for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, while helping them to meet or exceed National Curriculum reading expectations. Time for Phonics is available for purchase as a standalone service and is also available at no additional cost to existing customers using Discovery Education Espresso.
Michael Savitz, Discovery Education’s UK and International Managing Director said:
“Time for Phonics is an exciting new addition to our suite of products and offers teachers an innovative and engaging new way to deliver high-quality phonics lessons to all learners. The Bett Awards are the highest accolade in the UK education industry, so we’re both delighted to be shortlisted in the Early Years category and grateful for this validation of our work.”
The 2025 BETT Awards will take place on 22nd January in London. Recognised by many as the most important awards in the industry, BETT finalists are seen to be at the cutting edge of edtech across the UK and around the world.
